The General Manager is responsible for leading a Business Segment which includes full profit loss responsibility for all facets of the operation. The position manages an infrastructure team who support the total operation of the Segment. The General Manager executes their portion of a corporate strategic plan and implements tactical initiatives to drive service excellence and budget achievement. The General Manager manages all matters related to collection and/or post-collections operations (transfer stations, landfills, recycling centers and/or complexes); represents the Company to customers, vendors and municipal customers and other stakeholders; oversees effective safety and accident prevention programs and leads all operations to ensure compliance with standards; and drives change management initiatives to introduce and sustain new processed that contribute to the growth and durability of the Company.
Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

Bachelor's Degree preferred, must have High School diploma or GED.

Valid CDL license with DOT card.

Previous experience in the environmental services industry.

Minimum of 7 years progressive leadership and management responsibility.

Minimum of 3 years of P&L experience.

Previous operations experience in the waste industry.

5+ years of prior management of people in a fast-paced environment.

Knowledge of OSHA, DOT and EPA guidelines.

Prior trucking management, preferred.
-
Process-oriented and results-oriented in setting and pursuing aggressive goals, demonstrating a strong commitment to organizational success and marshaling resources to accomplish goals and objectives.

Ability to manage an extended span of control, with multiple sites and multiple business lines (e.g., hauling, landfills, recycling, new business).
Essential Job Duties
Management:
-
Implements and executes plans to complement the Corporations strategic plan; champions the execution of the Plan and tactical initiatives within the Segment, including but not limited to operating safely, enhancing customer service, improving efficiency and maximizing profitability.

Works with Coporate functional leaders to drive sales efforts within the Segment to achieve target growth objectives, exceed customer service goals and maximize profitability.

Manages performance and talent development of their staff.
Operations:
-
Leads operations to ensure compliance with all standards including environmental, operating, regulatory, safety, accounting and ethics.

Monitors progress of daily operations of area and reassigns employees making staff changes as necessary.

Supervises operations managers.
Safety:
-
Oversees the safety and accident prevention programs to ensure all reasonable action is taken to prevent accidents and injuries; ensures a safe and productive work environment for all employees.

Perform periodic audits to ensure drivers follow policies and procedures according to company, OSHA, and DOT guidelines.
Profitability:
-
Accountable for controlling costs by managing site productivity and operational efficiencies.
Personnel:
-
Responsible for appraisal of employee performance, ensuring that all new hires receive 6 reviews in the first 90 days and other employees receive annual and bi-annual reviews.

Responsible for the rewarding and disciplinary actions of employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
-
Supervises and trains personnel as needed.
Maintenance:
-
Supply Maintenance Manager with Daily Route Matrix to ensure enough equipment daily.

Review the schedule of routine repairs with Maintenance Manager.
General:
-
Perform other duties as assigned by upper management to maintain day to day operations.

Must be willing to be "on call" after hours and work as needed.

Must be self-motivated, self-disciplined, and possess good communication skills.

Manage, plan, and implement changes to promote efficiency within the Site of profitability.
